"Be strong, To be useful" But are we? |

Spiderman. Who doesn't know about Spidey? Especially traceurs. We are compared to Spidey almost on a daily basis. Just about all of our friends and family have called us Spiderman at least once, at some point in time. Why? Because we climb on buildings and scale walls? Because we appear to practically fly.. and defy common knowledge of physics and the natural ability of mankind? What is the connection? The truth, it seems, is far different than what most would think. Why is Spiderman so close to, and associated with, the world of Parkour? The answer is simple. Uncle Ben.

After just three classes each and everyone of the Parkour Boot camp students are managing to very quickly gain great control over their body movements. In yesterdays class, after a warm up that involved some balance drills, jumps and PK landings, Ozzi and Pete lead the group to vaulting introduction, having them all experiment with a variety of techniques to mount on to and over come simple obstacles that may be on their path. This is only their third class and they are progressing very rapidly. Watch out Oahu!!!! A new breed of super humans is being created, right here at crossfit. Here are the pics from yesterdays class for you all to look at. You can check the rest of the pics HERE |

1st PK Training Camp Class at CF |

21, that is the number of people who showed up to our initial PK Training Camp class last night. We had to cap it at 15 but we had some very excited people already waiting for the next program to start. We had people from all around the island and different backgrounds, Crossfit was also representing with the 2 Mikes, James, Bryan, Katie, Joey among others who were there to experience something different. If you think Crossfit prepared them for what they went through, think twice. We had 6 girls in a discipline that is currently is in need for some more female support so HIpk and Crossfit are doing their part very well. After watching a video introduction about some of Parkour's origins and traceurs around the world, everyone started having some fun, dripping sweat and getting dirty while experiencing some of the Parkour related conditioning exercises, balance, coordination, endurance and strength that left everyone begging for a recharging meal and a long night of sleep. You can see some footage HERE
If you wish to know the complete workout you can check it HERE

Honolulu Magazine Article |

Early and chilly Wednesday morning, in the middle of my sleep I get a text from Pete asking me if we were going to be meeting that morning. Half sleep I manage to text back, "stay tune I am waiting for a call". Back in my sweet beauty PK sleep, phone rings, I grunt a bit while out of a yawn I say "hello!?" Mike from the Honolulu Magazine is on the other line, apologetic about the very confusing photographer who kept canceling our meetings. He urges to say that he is contacting someone to try to meet us that morning. That he will be calling me back, we hang up and I think "great, that means I cant go back to bed" |

We will be posting the GOM on the front page every ... month (duh).
The GOM will consist on a particular drill or exercise or drill to work progressively on in order to achieve the specify drill, add extra amount of reps to your existing number, or increase the difficulty of said exercise. I.e.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Clapping Push Ups (CPU's) Its benefits; Clapping Push Ups, will help you increase your explosive power, which will allow you to perform certain parkour techniques with more ease and better form (higher kongs, monkey, climb ups etc) therefor preserving energy and increasing your efficiency.
Beg. Achieve CPU's (if you dont have it) InterM. Add an extra 5 reps (if you do have it) Adv. Achieve Double CPU front and back (if you already do over 15 CPU's).
Once achieve, work on your form. once your form is clean and if you have still days left for the month try to go for max reps. Keep track and write how many you achieved by the end of the month. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In this example we will be including progression video to help you achieve your goal. At the end of the month you can come back to this thread and share with us how many did you achieve or anything else you want to add. This is not to compare your self to others, this is not a competition against anyone but yourself.
All this GOM will be tried to be kept and design to specifically help you excel in your Parkour techniques to gain power, control, efficiency and speed.
If you have any suggestions and or request you can always post them here (it'll make it easy for us as we wont have to think of one all the time ) You can check June's GOM HERE |

May's Jam Turnout! On a bright, sunny, and beautiful Sunday, 20 traceurs from around the island met up at one place in one time, Halawa District Park, for HawaiiPK's monthly jam. The day started with Ozzi, Pete, Adam, and Amanda, who arrived at a bustling park with three different baseball games going on, as well as a Japanese Kenpo Event. Parking in the...park... made everybody think they were in Waikiki. After waiting around for a good hour and discussing the events of day, participants of the jam began to show up, one by one, group by group.

Pete, Adam and Ozzi from Urban Current met with The Honolulu Magazine on April 30th for a photo shoot that is to be featuring on the outdoors activities section of the magazine, unfortunately Jason couldn't join due to a busy schedule. The magazine contacted Ozzi after the director from the Mikey D's commercial mentioned Urban Current's name. They specifically requested to meet with the guys from UCC for a photo shoot. It was a fun morning full or action and "modeling" by Ozzi whom due to his ankle injury just sat/stood around as the face of the clan while Pete and Adam worked their butts off. The article will be featuring on the Jun edition of the magazine so make sure you subscribe to get it. We will be posting the pics and article once we get it, so you wont miss it. |

On the past Monday, April 14th, Adam McClellan and Ozzi Quintero were accepted to film a TV spot on the show "Night Time". Unfortunately, they only wanted two guests, so Pete and other members did not get the chance to appear, but if you listen carefully to the 'applause', you might hear their screams of agony at not becoming celebrities. Or maybe that's just Ozzi and his sprained ankle, backstage, limping about. Click on READ MORE for the rest of this article. |

Bryant (CrossFit coach) and I have been talking about getting some classes started at CrossFit Oahu. This is in the process of being organized, but it is in the making and will happen. This will be the only place in the island where anyone would be able to participate in a program designed to teach and condition anyone who is ready to start a new journey with Parkour, for whatever goal they decide to achieve. I will keep you posted on when the classes will start.
In the mean time, enjoy this training video of me in the CrossFit facilities.

March 30th, the guys from HIpk will be meeting at the Bank Of Hawaii spot for a jam and fun, from 11 until the body can take it. This is a great place for beginners and those who have some experience. Anyone and everyone is welcome regardless of skill level. The main idea of this monthly jams is to; - Emphasize the importance of conditioning to prolong and preserve the body for PK practices. - Exchange new ideas or practice concepts for addition to ones existing training. - Keep the PK community up to dated and active. - Get photo session for the site in order to share with other traceurs around the nation. - Gather with other traceur as a way of networking within the community to plan sessions around you area. - Help new comers get started by learning all the bases. - And mainly practice together as it is always helpful and the best way to help/push each other and try new techniques in order to excel. HIpk and Urban Current are always in the look out for skillful and passionate Traceurs. We will be planning this jams monthly so if you have any suggestions for location PLEASE let us know (you can submit ideas HERE ). It is our mission to bring PK knowledge all over the island so we will do our best to spread our selves throughout the island if needed to. REMEMBER TO BRING FLUIDS AND SNACKS. |

Pete and Ozzi from The Urban Current Clan met with Mike Gordon from the Honolulu Advertiser regarding an story about the rise of Parkour in Hawaii. They meet today at a very nice set of railings at the Winward Community College for an interview and some footage that will be featuring in their site. After 3 hours of what seemed like just another practice day for these guys, they met with the photographer who also got some very nice shots of them vaulting and jumping over the rails. This article will be published on the Sunday paper on March 23rd and the same day the video will be placed on their site. Stay tuned as we will be placing a direct link to the video to share what these two guys were up to today. KHNL is also interested in getting a story with some of the HIpk guys, we will keep you updated with more information regarding the news story. Click HERE if you wish to comment on this article. |

It seems HIpk has been slow and with nothing new at all the last couple of weeks. Well maybe on the front page seems that way but HIpk is now been improved, adding and organizing the tutorials section, creating the PK Urban Gym and keeping it busy with more conditioning videos, articles and coming soon the drills section, where we will be featuring a break down a variety of PK related exercises you can add to your existing routine.
HIpk is always looking to improve the site in order to being able to keep the Hawaiian PK community informed and up to date with event and or articles that may be beneficial for your training or mind set in general.
If you have any suggestions please visit out forum and let us know of the great ideas you may have in mind.
